Patrick’s Perfect Pear Martini

Patrick’s taste for drinks is always changing – but some things stay the same:  he likes some sweetness, and he likes vodka.  After traveling to Hawaii where we had a delicious ginger martini, and to Laguna Beach, California where we had a great Grey Goose poire and ginger martini, we decided to try some ourselves.  We bought our first martini shaker this weekend at Bed, Bath and Beyond, and then I shook him up some nice drinks.

Here is what you will need:

3 oz. vodka (quality of your choice)

1.5 oz. St. Germaine or other brand of elderflower liqueur (I like the Organic Thatcher’s Elderflower, it’s a little less sweet than St. Germaine, and also less expensive)

4.5 oz. pear soda or juice

handful of ice

(Note:  as you can see, my ratio is one part elderflower, two parts vodka, and three parts pear soda.  Feel free to adjust to your taste, or to make smaller or larger quantities in this ratio.)

Here is what you do:

1.  Put all ingredients in a martini shaker.  (If you don’t have a martini shaker, you can use a water bottle.)

2.  Shake a bit.  (If you use pear soda, be sure to release the gas bubbles after every couple shakes or there will be spillage.)

3.  Pour the liquid into glass.  (If you use a water bottle, be sure to strain the liquid out so no ice ends up in the glass.)

L’chaim!  Enjoy!
